Welding hat customers rely on HD welding caps to provide comfort and protection in demanding environments. The brim of a welding cap is particularly important because it shields the face and neck from sparks and heat. For years we have used flame‑resistant (FR) denim in our brims because it combines the comfort and style of regular denim with tested protective qualities. FR denim is engineered to provide protection while still looking and feeling like everyday denim.
Our current situation
Our current supply of FR denim will run out at the end of August 2025. This shortage is due to difficulties finding a new supplier of flame‑resistant denim that meets our quality standards. We know many welders depend on the flame‑resistant brims on our caps, so we want to be transparent about this temporary change.
Until we secure a new FR‑denim supplier, the brims of most Welding Hat caps will be made from regular 12‑14 oz denim. Denim weight is measured in ounces per square yard; mid‑weight denim (12–16 oz) balances comfort and strength, while heavyweight denim (13–16 oz) offers durability and ruggedness, making it a good choice for workwear. Although 12‑14 oz denim does not have the flame‑resistant treatment of our FR fabric, it is sturdy enough to provide structure and long‑lasting wear. Mid‑weight denim typically offers a good balance of breathability and strength, and heavier denim is known for its resilience in labor‑intensive tasks and colder conditions.
What this means for you
-
Safety: The temporary 12‑14 oz denim brims will not offer the same flame‑resistant protection as FR denim. Please exercise appropriate caution when using welding caps during this period.
-
Durability: The heavier denim we’ll use is designed for workwear and will stand up to daily use. It may feel slightly stiffer at first but will soften with wear.
-
Timeline: Our current stock of FR denim brims should last through August 31, 2025. Caps ordered after this date (or once current FR brims sell out) will feature the 12‑14 oz denim until FR supply is restored.
-
Future updates: We are actively searching for a new FR‑denim supplier. Once we secure high‑quality FR denim, we will resume making brims with flame‑resistant material and will announce the change on our blog and product pages.
We appreciate your understanding and patience during this transition. Our priority remains providing comfortable, durable headwear while working toward restoring full flame‑resistant protection. Please reach out if you have questions about existing inventory, custom orders, or safety recommendations.
